Hey Andy, I had mentioned this before and it has not been resolved. I realize you have been getting slammed with this support forum, no worries mate. I would appreciate if you could take a look at my site and tell me what you think is going on with my blog. Maybe test it out. I'm not really quite sure how it is supposed to work but when I post something or get a post it doesn't show on my blogger page. I've gotten one to show up and when you click it to read it says sorry page is not found. Also, in my footer there is a glitch or something where between pricing and blogger, one of the lines in my menu are doubled up. I can not seem to figure out where it is written to fix it. Other than that, I'd like to get a forum like this set up soon. If you could point out how to do this I will leave you alone for a while. This has been an interesting couple weeks and other than the limitation on the 3D Gallery text overlay, which I completely understand, this is a top notch theme and I will be sure to grab more copies for client sites in the near future. Thanks for all your help!
Can you pm me your details – it looks like you have alternative URL's for the posts – don't forget when using a blog template to select the Categories you want to display on that page (bottom right hand corner, Blog Categories).
The pages, is that using Custom Menu or Page Widget?
Thanks mate – with regards to the 3d Cu3er – it would take a fair amount of work to implement that and therefore it would have to be a chargeable service. I'm pretty stretched this week but if it's something you want me to look at PM and I'll quote you for it. I'm assuming you want it to work the same way with the 3d gallery slideset or posts etc. Otherwise you'll have to define your own image source.
Was it a mistake on my part? If so, could you correct me where I was wrong so I do not have the problem down the road. As far as the Cub3r, I am currently trying to get the Piecemaker 2 to work with text overlay. I've managed to get the text to show while testing movie in flash. As soon as I export an SWF it breaks. There are a few peolpe working on it with me. If and when I get a working copy of it, I'll be sure to send you a folder. It is open source, so maybe you could use it in future editions. I'm working on some After Effects projects to use for now on the home page. I'll go check out the Blog and see what you did. Thanks a lot Andy, you rule!
Do you know what the problem is with the footer menu?
are you making the piecemaker 2 wordpress friendly b4 publishing?
Modify the ActionScript
The first step is to modify the ActionScript so that it’ll play nicely with WordPress. The ActionScript that comes with Piecemaker defines three values that the Piecemaker needs in order to function properly:
- the XML Source
- the CSS Source
- the path to the images folder.
The XML Source defines the Picemaker’s various settings and allows you to define images and their descriptions. The CSS file styles the Piecemaker’s description panels, and the images directory tells the Piecemaker where to pull the images from.
Open up the FLA file named “piecemakerNoShadow.fla” and open the Actions window. In frame 1 you will see the actions below. Please note that you need Flash CS4 to open the source file.
In order for the Piecemaker to work properly within our WordPress theme, we need to dynamically set these variables. To achieve this, we will be using FlashVars. FlashVars are variables the we’ll set within our WordPress page template that will get passed to the flash movie when the page loads. Go ahead and delete the default actions in frame 1 of the flash file, and replace them with the following code:
- stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
- // Pull in the Flashvars
- var allFlashVars:Object = LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters;
- // Set the required variables for piecemaker
- piecemaker.xmlSource = String(allFlashVars.xmlSource);
- piecemaker.cssSource = String(allFlashVars.cssSource);
- piecemaker.imageSource = String(allFlashVars.imageSource);
- piecemaker.dispatchEvent(new Event("properties"));
The above ActionScript first loads in the FlashVars, and then replaces the default Piecemaker values with these new variables. Our Flash file is now all set to go. Publish the SWF and load your FTP client of choice.
hope this helps 🙂
I had read that article before beginning this mess. Where I am confused is with WordPress. I am still a bit clueless about PHP and am used to working locally. I have setup a testing server now in my local network with Wamp and I'm able to use Live Code in Dreamweaver to get a better grip on what is going on server side. If I am seeing this right, the code above will basically make the piecemaker WordPress friendly while its dependencies will be based on the actual FlashVars for the properties. Which would make the .xml remain in charge of the images and descriptions. Now when I add the HTML tags for the description, would the flashvars within actionscript determine their placement. There is an action or variable that is making the piecemaker slide the text off the image as if it were a motion tween. Gets confusing, I'm no Pro. But I do enjoy the challenge. Things like this is how I become educated. Thanks for your input, I will give it some time.
why not give the guys at modularweb a quick email and see if they can point you in the right direction:
I have been trying to get them for two days now. I have not heard back from them. I have been trying quite a few places. I've got it opened in Dreamweaver now and it is just too confusing at this point. I'll wait to hear from them. It would just be nice to have html description for the images. If nothing can happen, I'll have to just settle for the stage gallery until something better comes. I love the way it looks right now with my vectors. I might put them in After Effects and add text there with motion. I have been testing on a local server and WordPress is twice as fast. My site is pretty much a dog. I believe you had suggested moving hosts, but Justhost has never given me any trouble. I've been with them for years. I did install WordPress with them through Fantastico. Do you think I would gain any performance sitewide from doing a clean manual install? If so, would I just move my DynamiX theme folder.
im not any kind of pro when it comes to flash,however i should think you would have to add the functionality into the origional flash file from modularweb and make the mods described above then publish as swf,but also you will have to edit the piecemakerxml.php to include those mods.
it seems a little too much work for little functionality to be honest,you could find a wordpress flash slider with that functionality and disect it to see how it was done.other than that,purchase a license to use cu3er
