Our site wangjingwei.org has pages in English and Chinese. We now want to add a blog with posts in English and separate posts in Chinese. Can you tell me how, if possible, to add Chinese words in front of sidebar labels “Archives” “Categories” “Tags” “Leave a Reply” and “Search ” (inside the search box) or eliminate the word leaving just the magnifying glass? Can I also change font size for those words? Also, how do I control length of excerpts shown? Also, how to I change the timestamp to eg 2016-06-16 from June 2016?
Do I need a plug in for all this or can this be done with Dynamix?
Thank you,June 28, 2016 at 10:59 pm #90282
Also, could you please tell me how to have a blog index page layout using 3/4+1/4 format to match the rest of my site, instead of the standard page layout options offered? I can see that visual composer does not work on blog index page or post pages. Login to follow.June 28, 2016 at 11:01 pm #90283This reply has been marked as private.June 29, 2016 at 4:24 pm #90303
You should be able to create Chinese and English blog posts for your site without any issue. Regarding putting Chinese translations beside the sidebar labels “Archives” “Categories” “Tags” “Leave a Reply” and “Search ”, you will nee do manually edit the theme files to accommodate this.
The best option is to use a Translation plugin like WPML so that you can offer both Chinese or English versions to your audiences.
The length of the excerpt and the format of the date is controlled from the theme files and will require customization to the theme code.
For the page layout, you should have control over this under the ‘Page Config’ tab under the Page Editor. You can select the ‘Page Layout’ that you want to use for the page.

Thanks, will try plugin, but they all seem to work with the entire site, not the blog posts only. Anyway, regarding the page layout, if you take a look at this (and all other pages) http://wangjingwei.org/wang-jingwei-life-cn/bio/ I use the 3/4+1/4 in visual composer. But when I choose the 1x Right Sidebar in the ‘Page Config’ tab under the Page Editor on the blog page http://wangjingwei.org/announcements/ the sidebar is too wide. There is no other option to choose from that will make it the size of the other pages built in VC.July 1, 2016 at 11:47 am #90336
We can adjust the width of the sidebar using CSS. Another option that you have is not declare the ‘Announcements’ page as the ‘Latest Posts’ page. This way, you can use the 3/4 + 1/4 page layout, then add a ‘WP Rent Posts’ element on the 3/4 column then the widgetized sidebar on the 1/4 column.

That’s a great suggestion, and it works. However this only applies to the blog index page and not the post pages. Is there anything I can do so the sidebar widths match? Also I have image set to align left in the Theme Options ->Blog but it’s still showing up centered. please see http://wangjingwei.org/announcements/July 2, 2016 at 1:56 pm #90361
This could still apply to the Post pages, and it will be done the same way as the ‘Announcements’ page. It will not be declared as the Post pages in the settings but it will act as one. Can you please specify which one is the page you are referring to?
For the image, I have checked from my and the image is actually floating left. Can you please send us a screenshot of how the page looks from your end?

So what you are referring to as ‘Post page’ is the specific layout for each blog post, correct? Can you please give me permission to disable all your plugins because I can’t seem to make Firebug work, so I can’t easily check the CSS codes we need to update. One of your plugins could be causing the issue.
For the image alignment, since you are using a ‘Recent Post’ element, you should be able to control the image alignment there if you open the Recent Posts settings.

Yes, please do, thank you. As for the “recent post” element I actually tried to image align to left and save it but every time it reverts back to “normal”.July 4, 2016 at 5:03 pm #90406
The width of the content and the sidebar should be fixed now. Please check if it looks good from your end.
For the image alignment, we can fix this with CSS as I tested but the layout does not look good since there will be a really big space to the right of the image and the current alignment looks better. If you are thinking of laying it out differently, can you please send over a mockup so we can check what we can do from our end?

Hi, thanks for fixing the post page layout.
I know what you mean by the too much space issue. Just wondering why it didn’t align left even though I checked align left on the blog pace set up.
Thank you anyway.July 5, 2016 at 4:57 pm #90417
There was a default CSS on the theme that was forcing the image to be centered.
