    If you change the Archives widget to a drop down menu, it renders two arrows in both IE and Firefox. A screenshot is here: http://denovati.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/dropdown.png A live page is here: http://denovati.com/2014/01/sapling-approach-to-leveraging-social-media in the sidebar.

    I found this http://bavotasan.com/2011/style-select-box-using-only-css/ but I can’t find the similar CSS. Is there a way to remove the default arrow?

    Hi,

    Unfortunately that method involves wrapping a DIV around every select box – it’s not ideal and would involve implementing lots more code just to achieve this.

    This appears to be more of a happier medium for all browsers – edit DynamiX/style.css and locate this bit of CSS:

    select {
    -webkit-appearance:none;
    outline:none;
    cursor:pointer;
    background:url(images/selectmenu-a.png) top right no-repeat;
    max-width:100%;
    padding-right:30px;
    }

    and change to ( padding-right value ):

    select {
    -webkit-appearance:none;
    outline:none;
    cursor:pointer;
    background:url(images/selectmenu-a.png) top right no-repeat;
    max-width:100%;
    padding-right:10px;
    }

    I tried this code fix and it removed the second arrow. However it removes the arrow that goes with the theme (right in screenshot) and retains the default (left). How do we retain the theme arrow and remove the default?

    Unfortunately we can’t do anything about that – The IE and FF browsers do not allow the removal of their icon. You would probably have to use jQuery to manipulate it.

    Kind regards,
    Tom
