So I had to switch from the awesome 3d gallery to the stage gallery because it seems you can't embed videos. I got the stage gallery working and I have my video embedded but it is defaulting to the low res version. I need to tell it to load the HD plugin.
I use the licensed version of JW Player along with wordtube extensively on another one of my sites, and wordTube gives you a section where you can append all of your custom variables to load various plugins, configure streaming ads, custom overlay on the player, etc.
Can I do this somewhere with this theme? Or do I have to manually append a flashvars querystring to the jwplayer configuration in the Dynamix configuration?
I'm no Pro but here is a link to my site where I am using the 3D Gallery with video. http://inclouddesign.com/ It seems you aren't able to use You Tube with 3D Gallery but can use SWF,FLV,MP4 as far as I know. What I had to do in order to make my After Effects composition remain of decent quality was import a rendered composition (.avi) and export it as an .flv. If I understand you correctly, I am trying desperately right now to have a text overlay with image description for my 3D Gallery images. Not sure if it is possible at this time. I will keep my eyes on this thread in hopes to accomplish my goal. Hope I was able to help in some way.
I don't want to jump through hoops and do FLVs. I have some videos I produce but I am going to wind up with a lot of videos from a lot of different sources. Ideally I could enable all the JW Player configuration I need ( custom overlay image, ad serving solution, High Definition, twitter and facebook sharing plugins, etc.) and feed it a playlist and then just update the playlist. Having "posts" that host the videos then tied to a category is I guess the way they implemented playlists with this theme in a way.
Some of that is over my head, I am unfamiliar with JW Player as of now or what it is capable of. From what you've posted it sounds like it is what I need to implement the type of streaming I would prefer for my home page galleries. It would be wicked convenient to be able and use a single source almost like the slide sets for maintaining video, text output. From your description it sounds to me like JWPlayer allows a sort of streaming content from a single source. Am I understanding you correctly? If you were to look at my site now, there is an image in my 3D Gallery (slide 3) that is an image alone. When you roll over and click the (I), for information, it shows the title and description. That is no good for me. I would like to have it on the image as it is presented without interaction. If this is not possible with the theme, I will nedd to find an alternative. Sounds like your quite able to overcome your boundaries.
I was able to get HD and my plugins working on my home page by hacking stage-gallery-frame.php to put them in. The theme doesn't have support for it out of the box. When I have more time I might hack in my own additional options in the admin panel.
I don't think JW Player itself is the solution for what you want to achieve. The JW Player has a feature where you can feed it an RSS feed of a playlist and have it cycle through videos. I really like the playlist feature and use it on one of my sites. If I need that for my Free Music Exposure site I'll probably just do the embed code myself.
The nice thing about the galleries with the Dynamix theme is that it is mixed media – images plus video of various types.
The info box thingy for the 3d gallery doesn't work for me, so i wouldn't know how to then change it. Sounds like you need my non-working version and I need your working one 🙂
Overcoming boundaries is "necessity is the mother of all invention" right? 😉
I'm building a site to help indie musicians and bands. It came out of another site I built where I was getting a lot of interest in it, so I built a site just for it. I'm going to promote them online and on TV and video for free. I haven't figured out how to make money with it yet, but I have a few ideas. I'll get it going first and then figure it out. I've been buying cheap but targeted radio ads and stuff and once I really start promoting it I think it is going to take off, but I've been keeping it quiet for the last month. I've got guys from record labels and whatnot following me and watching the site, and I've received demo/music submissions from both unknown people and some pretty serious already established hip hop artists one of whom has their own cable reality tv show. So, uh, yeah a lot of people are going to see the site and the theme too! Going to be fun 🙂
Anyway, I just bought a commercial jw player license for FME and was able to deploy it and get my site logo to show up as the watermark on the videos. I want this because I think once I start publishing the features on the artists, that they are going to share it with their fans and friends, and if they use the embed off the site then it will also spread the word about the site. 🙂
I took a look at your site, it looks great. I think the only way to achieve what you want with the 3d gallery is to actually put the text in the images, maybe have a 2nd version of the image with the text overlayed. Otherwise you have to use the Stage gallery instead. That 3d effect is awesome though, its a tough choice.
Nice job man, it looks great. Did you do the After Effects for the video? Checking that out a few questions arose. Do you know if it is possible to customize your blog page. I can't seem to do anything to mine. In fact, I'm not sure if my blog is working or not, or how to check it for that matter. I have no experience with blogging. The other thing is that I keep noticing the social icon popup like your site and wondering where and how people are getting that. I love the way they popup on roll over. I would like to make sure my site is linked to all my social networks and don't know where to begin. Awesome job so far and if you ever need anything feel free to ask.
I did have some images with the text as part of the image and that is cheezy and pointless to me. My hopes are to have a fully dynamic site and not be restricted by having to recreate art work for updates. It would be sick to have full dynamic text updated over my images in real time. For now I'd be happy with the ability to manually update the text. On the DynamiX demo it shows the 3D Gallery with a text overlay, or so it seems. That was a major closer for me to go with the theme. Overall, the theme and its design are top notch. I never expected this or anything to be precisely as I wanted at purchase. There is always something. I'm used to building from scratch with HTML and CSS and having full control. Just have to find out how to access everything in this type of layout. Knowing nothing about blogs or WordPress a week ago has been a process for me to get where I am now. Both your sites look great. Only thing in my opinion, the massmedia site is really cluttered. I prefer a lean site with fool proof navigation. Just my two cents.
I did do the video. I got the template from videohive, and then customized it. I output to uncompressed ~10GB, then compress with a different program, then I added all the audio tracks and compressed it in HD format in another program. I've got a ton of music, voiceovers, etc. I had made that I am putting into other videos too.
You can customize your blog page to some degree. Once you set wordpress to use the Home page as the front page, you have to create a "blog" page to host your blog posts. One of the really cool things about this theme is that you can create multiple blog pages and then filter the categories that show up on each. So for instance, on my site I am planning to sort of replace the blog and call it a "Magazine" with different sections (once I have more content loaded), you can do this really easy with this theme. If you create your a page, and then set the template to Blog, from there you can tweak what you need. The social icon is just a checkbox in the page options on the right hand side. I also use a bookmark plugin from Shareable that shows up at the bottom of all the single posts.
Once you start building sites on top of wordpress you will get addicted, you'll find you have a set of plugins that you like to use by default, and it becomes very easy and fast to stand up new sites.
I'm already addicted. This is such a break from my Norm. There seems to be so much you can do. Right now I am overwhelmed with it all. The first week I could not grasp the concept or even add content to any page.
I did set my original blog page as the Home page and made it static. I then created a page named blog which you can get to from my main menu. The blog page was set to receive posts in settings. Now when I open the page called blog and edit it, the changes don't show. When you click preview changes it goes to my home page as if I didn't redirect it. I'll go and try to set the template as blog and see if it helps. I do believe I tried that along the way. What your explaining about Categories just really cleared up a couple things for me, Thanks a lot. I'm Obsessed!
Where are you? There's usually no one around at this time.
I'm in the US east coast outside Philly. I think everyone else on here is from Europe / U.K. 🙂
For your blog, I'm not sure what you're trying to edit on it. If you're trying to add content, you should add posts and then they will appear on the page as long as the categories match.
Yeah , I just went and tried again to change the orientation of the page. I tried blog, grid blog and whenever I preview the page or press edit directly from the page it still goes to my home page and makes no changes. One thing I did notice and hadn't before, checking the one category I have made my posts show up on my home page. I'm lost, no idea why or where the info is supposed to come from. How do I get posts on my blog or link it to my social networks? The only posts I have currently are my own I posted while testing. I'm confused. Man your quick with replies.
Hehe, only quick because I happen to be sitting here with the tab open while I tweak some things. Just got my Zazzle store integrated 🙂
Once you checked off a category, it knew to pull the posts for that category and display them on your blog page.
To get posts on your blog, first, create a post 😛 When you add a new post, you can select what categories to put it in. Then, on your blog page or pages, if they are set to pull the same categories, the posts will show up there.
By link it to your social networks what do you mean? To get Twitter integration, there are settings on the DynamiX admin page where you can put your Twitter username in and it will then pull your tweets and display them on pages where you've enabled the twitter display. The social sharing buttons will just work by default, they pop up the share functions of the different networks like Facebook… If you want to do things like integrating your activity stream in Facebook and your blog, you need other plugins for that. I looked into Buddystream to let users link Facebook and their buddypress stream until I found that it is now a 50 Euro per year _subscription_ plugin. Don't need it that bad.
