not sure a laptop is the best kit for this tbh. 🙁
a cheap desktop + monitor from ebay prob better, and run as proper server using linux or windows dependant on preference.
but if must be laptop id prob go for xamp.
If your paying for hosting, why not setup a subdirectory and install wp on that, create a new mysql database with prefix other wp’s default,Which for security reasons should be done anyway.
just my 2 cents worth 🙂
thanks – thats great advice
yes: i would normally develop on sub domain or free domain name
but i need to have something to show potential clients – where internet won’t exist majority of times – hence i need a server
its been something i’ve wanted to get into in any case
well… it’s a lot to do with the actual type of client that i’m pitching to
when they see an animated banner and big pictures – they get all excited
psd mockups won’t really feel the same
+ the trouble i’d go to to make static html to give the same effect would be more work than just installing xamps
