    Hello,

We’ve been getting some very slow load times on our site at http://www.arts-festival.com/ Based on our http://gtmetrix.com/ scan we are getting C-F in the following categories:

    Add Expires headers
    Make fewer HTTP requests
Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
    Configure entity tags (ETags)
    Avoid URL redirects
    Use cookie-free domains

After exhausting everything we’re comfortable/capable of doing to fix these, we wondering is some of it is theme related. Can you let us know what, if anything, we are able to do with the theme to reduce the load time? We do have a caching plugin installed.

    Hi,

If you run your site in GTmetrix, then click YSlow, then click each of the categories you have mentioned above, then click read more, they will give you an explanation of each.

As these are not theme issues, I cannot really provide support for them but if you click the read more, they will help out a lot.

There are a few things you can do just by clicking on each category, for example.
    There are 2 redirects
    http://arts-festival.com/images/blank.gif redirects to /
    http://b.scorecardresearch.com/b?… redirects to http://b.scorecardresearch.com/b2?…

You can locate these and change them on the site without affecting anything.

CDN, you could use CloudFlare, etc.

Apart from that, I put your site through Pingdom and it does load quite quickly for the size of site. http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/cHMgHg/http://arts-festival.com/

Saying that, if you look how many images are loading up compared to how many are actually on the page, there is a lot more. This is something I would be checking out. Unless you have a gallery on your home page that is pulling lots of images in?

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response, we’ve actually done what you suggested about clicking through everything but it’s a little outside of our depth and we’re getting a bit of a run around from our hosting company. Asking you was a bit of a last ditch effort.

As for the redirects we recently rebuilt the site from a non WP to WP format and thusly created a quite bit of redirects sadly. CDN isn’t free (to the best of my knowledge) and the client is unwilling to spend more money.

Thanks for the Pingdom site. We ran it again and it’s returning 18s when not throwing an internal service error. The hosting company is stating it’s to do with the site visit load but the site isn’t hugely busy.

There are two galleries in the footer of the page which is probably where the images are coming from.

Anyway, thanks for the help. Good to know it’s not a theme issue.

I’ve been asked to follow up on a couple things.

Under Add Expires headers, http://arts-festival.com/wp-content/themes/DynamiX/ is referenced seven times.

Under Use cookie-free domains, the same is referenced 17 times.

Ditto for under Configure entity tags (ETags).

Also, the gallery that I mentioned is using the RevSlider which comes with the theme. Is there a better way to use the plugin to improve the load times.

As these are related to the theme is there a way to fix them?

    Hi,

These are not theme related. You can view a post on expires headers here which may help. http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-add-far-future-expires-headers-to-your-wordpress-site-1533

I recommend contacting Rev slider directly for that answer as it is a 3rd party plugin, we have no control over the files unfortunately.

    Hope this helps.
