my question has to do with the "gallery slide sets" in the dynamix tab. I updated the wordpress to the latest version and it broke my images. I noticed that the images uploaded into the gallery slide set do not acctually upload into the media library because none of them are in there.
So my question is, if I update my theme will it delete my url's that are currently embeded in the gallery slide sets? or if I update the theme will they regenerate and become viewable again?
I tried uploading the theme via ftp and it would not ovewrite the existing file. I just contiued to run the old version instead of the new. If would people shed some light on this issue I would appreciate it. I dont want to have to replace all the gallery slides sets since the website is driven by this component http://www.pointeastltd.com
I tried uploading the theme via ftp and it would not ovewrite the existing file. The FTP just contiued to run the old version instead of the new (I dont know why). If you would please shed some light on this issue I would appreciate it. I dont want to have to replace all the gallery slides sets since the website is driven by this component. Here is my website:
before we can use the "Gallery Slide Sets" we have to upload the pictures we want to use via the standard WP included "Media/Library".
Just for this example I upload a picture called "picture.01.jpg".
After uploading this picture it is stored in: /wp-content/uploads/year/month/picture.01.jpg
>>> So you do not have to worry because the pictures are stored outside of your theme folder. So that you can not destroy it via updating your theme.
Ok regarding your theme update the procedure (best practice) would be:
1. make a backup of wordpress (copy all files via FTP to your local computer)
2. make a backup of your db (login to your account on the website of your hoster >>> search for phpMyAdmin or similar tools or ask your hoster)
3. deactivate all your plugins
4. go to your backend of WP & activate a standard theme (e.g. Twenty Eleven)
5. log in via FTP & delete your old theme (you use v2.8.1) folder (/wp-content/themes/DynamiX)
6. upload the new theme folder via FTP (same location)
7. go to your backend of WP again & activate the new theme
8. activate all your plugins again
All your Gallery Sliders will not be lost because they are stored in your database which will not be affected. & all your images will not be lost too because they are not stored in your theme folder.
Hope this helps. 😉
I’ve tried using the Envato plugin to update my theme, but it doesn’t do anything. Just sits there with a blank page.
Any ideas how to get this to work?
To be clear: i never get to step 3. I click “update automatically”, and the page turns white and nothing happens.
edit: NEVERMIND–i learned to read and this very bug is in the Note under step 3 ><
Since i’m using ManageWP to take backups, i’ll skip the Envato backup and proceed.
edit2: I would not recommend using the Envato plugin. It straight up broke my site–good thing i do daily backups through ManageWP.
I tried getting their help, but they think it’s my problem, which it very well could be.
I am using the Child theme, does this make a difference? It looks like the Envato only updates the core theme, which is the point of the Child theme in general, but did you make changes to the child theme post Dynamix 3.0 where i’d need to update that too?
A couple other notes– The plugin “Revolution Slider” doesn’t install automatically when using the Envato plugin while using a child theme, because it looks in the child theme’s directory for the plugin. I was hoping the absence of this plugin was the cause of my site not working, but i installed in manually and it still looks like this after updating:
