Some of you have been experiencing issues with the Twitter feed. This is due to Twitter’s new API and them limiting the number of times the API is accessed. This is why sometimes it works and sometimes not.
I have a couple of options to help overcome this issue.
1. Disable the twitter feed altogether and use Twitter’s own widget, you can build one here: https://twitter.com/settings/widgets , once you’re happy with how it looks, copy and paste the code into the Visual Composer > Raw HTML element.
2. Currently the twitter feed accesses an App I created on https://dev.twitter.com – it uses four different codes to work, the only way to overcome the current issue is if you create your own App and enter your own codes into the Theme code.
Goto https://dev.twitter.com – sign-up for an account, follow their instructions on creating an app, then retrieve the following keys from the App.
Access token secret
Next, edit DynamiX/lib/inc/twitter.php and locate this section of code:
$consumerkey = "5rbZijwKFEYQEV5H6htg";
$consumersecret = "ebF7giIqkzQsyrM1Ci3AhRubWUbYbER2USAPGWAoxM";
$accesstoken = "163850809-K8HyFkvPh19n2UQfhHQNocIi0x9xRTjXsMw3Stn0";
$accesstokensecret = "4I6yI3JkfeRQvYMNav9h35GDWtBDNgaQ7P1xbwUYeU";
Replace these values with your own and upload to your server, it should then work without interruption.
Next, complain to Twitter that this method is a complete PITA to retrieve a few tweets!
beat me to it lol, your allowed 150 requests per hour, perhaps add these fields to your options panel removing complications with inexperienced users, i believe the requests issue could be resolved by caching the results, maybe the wp transients api could help ? http://wp.tutsplus.com/tutorials/getting-started-with-the-wordpress-transients-api-part-1/
I’ve looked into transient, I will include this along with the admin options in the next version either way, however it will still hit the limit with the current setup of using my App keys and caching. It’s a real pain for most users to create an app and get the keys etc, however it’s a must. Now I know why most plugins / themes are ditching Twitter.
The latest version now includes extra fields to add your own Twitter API and should resolve the issue of displaying tweets.
Thanks Andy! TOTALLY FIXED my problem. And setting up the Twitter API & all wasn’t all that difficult. Thanks for the step-by-step instructions.
