Sorry, but I need help.  Forgive the terminology I am about to use if it is wrong.

I am using v2.8.5.  I have got my website about 95% complete.

I have one menu item (Blog) that is my blog page.

The Blog Page Attributes is set to Blog

    I have created 7 Categories.

Settings->Reading->Front Page is set to, my Home menu item.

Settings->Reading->Posts Page is set to, Select

Membership is set to Anyone can register

New User default role is set to Subscriber

    There are zero posts.

    I two issues:

    1.  The Blog Categories section on my Blog Page does not contain any Categories.

    2.  When I go to the site as a normal user, there is no Login link. So, I cannot login to make any posts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Excellent way of posting a question – makes it so much easier for me to fix 🙂

    1. Change the Settings -> Reading -> Posts Page to no page, setting a page overrides the blog categories selected by the theme.

    2. You could add a buttton shortcode with the link to the login page e.g. add the url: /wp-admin/

    Hi Andy,

    Thanks!

Regarding my item 1 in the previous post – Settings->Reading->Posts Page is set to, — Select —  Doen't this mean, "no page?"

Anyway, I found a way to display all the Categories in the Blog Categories section – I had to create a "Welcome" post and then assign it to all Categories. When I did that, all the Categories instantly became availble.

Is creating an initial mandantory to get the Categories to display?

Thanks for the tip on the login!

    Hi Bill,

They do require posts to be within the categories for them to display – is that what you meant?
